Part I. Review Basic Skills
Find these units in the program "French, Beginner, All Situations, A1, Basic concepts 2." This 10-hour segment revews basic vocabulary and grammar. If you recently finished French Beginning 1 and French Beginning 2, you may wish to speed through or simply skip Part I. If your skills are a bit rusty, though, you will find them helpful in preparing for the lessons that follow.

For Part II, go to the "Training" tab on your Tell Me More Homepage and change your Language Program from "Beginner A1, All Skills" to "Intermediate A2, All Skills." We will begin with Unit 8 and complete the training units at this level.
If you recently completed our course, French, Beginner 2, you may skip Unit 8 and resume your lessons with Unit 9.
Unit 8. Reserve a villa - Réserver une villa (2:25)
- Vacation planning. Discuss dates and accommodations to plan a vacation.
- Vocabulary. Request information, make recommendations, ask about rooms, furnishings and fittings.
- Grammar. Agreement of past participle with subject, ordinal numbers, using adjectives with the feminine.
Unit 9. Get settled in the villa - Découvrir sa villa (2:09)
- Learn how to consult the landlord to complain if your villa is not as promised or if you need to report an appliance that is out of order.
- Vocabulary. Housing, furniture, appliances.
- Grammar. Talk about necessity and location.
Unit 10. Hello, what's the forecast? - Allô, la météo? (2:22)
- Everywhere the weather is a popular topic of conversation. Learn how to join in.
- Vocabulary. Weather phenomena.
- Grammar. Talk about possibility and obligation, the future tense of the verbs "avoir," "être" and "pouvoir" ("to have," "to be" and "to be able").
Unit 11. Rain or sun? - Pluie ou soleil? (1:57)
- Talk about the weather at a specific place and at a specific time in the past.
- Vocabulary. Terms for the weather and time expressions.
- Grammar. The comparative and the superlative, the future tense, using "espérer que" + indicative.
- Unit 12. Activités culturelles. Words and grammar are only parts of a system of communication … the cultural context is also important. These brief lessons provide an insight into an aspect of French-language culture.
Unit 13. Prepare a dinner - Préparer un dîner (2:47)
- In this lesson, you will learn how to invite someone to come over for dinner, discuss what you will cook and the utensils you will use to prepare the meal.
- Vocabulary. Foods and beverages, cooking utensils and methods, temperatures and equipment.
- Grammar. The conditional present of the verbs "aller" and "faire," the subjunctive, the term "penser que" and adverbs of time.
Unit 14. Set the table - Mettre le couvert (1:45)
- Learn terms for setting the table and putting the final touches on your dinner.
- Vocabulary. Utensils and tableware, making suggestions and giving directions, talk about spaces and equipment in a home.
- Grammar. The verb "mettre" in the present tense, verbs in the imperative with "en" and "y," the plural of compound nouns.
Unit 15. Let's go out! - Si on sortait! (2:10)
- Talk about leisure activities such as attending concerts or a play or going to a restaurant or a film. Express your opinion of the film.
- Vocabulary. Forms of entertainment and media, social life.
- Grammar. The relative pronoun "dont," conjugation of "entendre" in the present tense, adverbs of negation, the pronoun "y."
- 16. Activités culturelles.
Unit 17. To the concert - Au concert (2:27)
- Prepare to go to the concert by talking about various kinds of music.
- Vocabulary. Musical instruments, types of music, venues for listening to music.
- Grammar. "Avoir" and "être" in the past conditional, "jouer de" and "jouer à," pronominal verbs, possessive pronouns.
- 18. Activités culturelles.
When you have completed Unit 17, take the Language Achievement Test in Tell Me More. You will find it on your TMM Homepage by clicking the "Tests" tab. This assessment becomes available when you have completed thirty-six hours of practice with Tell Me More.
