This course is made up of several learning modules from the Tell Me More English for Professional Situations, Beginner/Intermediate (A1/A2) program.

In this course you will review and expand your basic skills with professional situations. You will know how to present yourself and to talk about your company.


1. Numbers and Money
Talk about your company, products, sizes and prices at a trade fair.
Grammar. Possessive adjectives, talking about quantity

Greetings, introductions and departures.
Grammar. Subject pronouns, the verb "to be," definite and indefinite articles and names of countries

Introduce yourself, talk about your job and your origins.
Grammar. The simple present, contractions with "to be," the difference between "a" and "an"

Interview for a management position, discussing your skills and education.
Grammar. Preterite tense, "can"

8. First Day at Work
Begin a new job, introductions, ask about company rules and regulations.
Grammar. Possessive, prepositions of place

9. Meeting the Boss.
Discuss your position with the boss, discuss your plans and projects.
Grammar. Simple present, "would like"

10. Presenting your Job.
Talk about your position, tasks and schedule.
Grammar. Adverbs of time, possessive pronouns.

Be able to ask for and give information such as from a supplier or when renting a car.

Business Calls
(11 hours 30 minutes)

1. On the phone
Identify yourself, spell your name, explain your position in the company.
Grammar. Alphabet, interrogatives

2. Appointments
Arrange a meeting, dates and times
Grammar. Short responses, "have to," verb and infinitive, placement of "enough"

3. Reserving a Flight
Discuss flight plans, travel plans and payment.
Grammar. Prepositions of place, telling "how long"

4. Reserving a room
Reserve a hotel room, discuss arrival and departure dates, facilities and locations
Grammar. Future with "will" and "to be going to," "there is" and "there are"

5. Conference Plans
Organize meetings, discuss participants, places, times.
Grammar. Future, past interrogatives

6. Information by phone
Ask for a catalog, information and details about deliveries
Grammar. "Some," "any," "may" and "might"

7. Reserving a Stand
Reserve a stand for your company at a meeting, dates, times, facilities
Grammar. Time expressions, "there is" and "there are"

Meetings and Speeches
(just over 8 hours)

Increase your fluency at the following tasks:
exchange information with your manager;
understand company rules and policies;
participate and share ideas in meetings.

2. Giving your Opinion
Exchange opinions and make recommendations
Grammar. Describe reactions and preferences, "should" and "ought to," giving advice

3. Discussions
Discuss product design and marketing.
Grammar. Interrogatives, direct and indirect questions.

4. An Urgent Problem
Discuss time, delays, problem-solving
Grammar. also, as well, too, must, have to

5. Solving the Problem
Report information about negotiation and problem-solving
Grammar. "Will" and "to be going to", questions without interrogatives

A learner at this level is able to understand basic vocabulary and expressions related to everyday matters (dates and times, personal and family information, basic shopping for food and clothing).

A learner at this level is able to communicate on a rudimentary level about simple and routine matters (simple exchanges of information, basic needs).
